Nowoneoftheundead,therestofthefilmdisplaysthetrialsofzombie-Colinastoldfromhisperspective.RudimentarytaskssuchasopeningdoorsarenowchallengingandfrustratingforColinasheseemstofumblearoundthepost-apocalypticstreetssearchingforsomepurpose. Tellingastoryfromaprotagonistsperspectivewhodoesn’tspeakisahardtasktoaccomplish,thereismaybe10minutesofdialogueintheentirefilm.ActorAlistairKirton(Colin)masterfullydrivesthefilmonhisperformancewithoutspeakingatall. AsColinshufflesaroundthecity,weareintroducedtosomeincrediblespecialeffects.ThebarrenLondonstreetscreateanominoustoneofashatteredworld.Thezombiesareextremelywelldoneandthereisplentyofgore…fromgut-rippingscenestoascenewherezombiesoverwhelmagroupofhumansinasplit-levelhouse,thereisdefinitelyenoughzombie-actiontogoaround. LaterinthefilmweareintroducedtoColin’ssisterwhorescuesColinfromtwothievesandthenflees.WelatermeetbackupwithherasColiniskidnappedwithaburlapsackoverhisheadandbroughttoanearbyhousewhereheistied-upinthebathroom.HissisterattemptstorecoversomesemblanceofColin’shumanityinaverystarksceneinthefilm.AsshepleadswithColintorememberwhosheisbyshowinghimpicturesofhispastlife.TheunresponsiveColinisvoidofemotionandismoreinterestedinherflesh.Colinisthentakentoseehismotherinaheart-wrenchingscenetowardstheendofthefilm. Bytheendofthefilm,wegettoseehowColinbecameinfectedandMarcPricedoesanexcellentjobofcapturingthatsenseofhopelessnessanduncertaintythatpermeatesthemoreinterestingofzombiefilms. Thefilmdoesn’treallyhaveadirectnarrativeordirectionyetitputsyoudirectlyintothefilmandyoureallyfeellikeyouareonthisjourneyofself-discoverywithColinashetriestoadapttoawholenewworld.It’ssomethingthathasneverreallybeenattemptedbeforeandisartfullydone.Equallyimpressiveisthatthefilmwasmadeforvirtuallynobudgetandwascompletedbyfriendsandassociateswhojustwantedtomakethefilm.Thefilmisveryraw,quickoftenshakycameraworkthatmakesyoufeelapartoftheactionlikeyou’vebeenthrustintothisbleakexistencewiththecast. WescreenedColinatthe2008RevenantFilmFestivalhereinSeattle,WAinOctoberanditwasvoted2ndplacebytheaudienceandpickeduptheSpecialJuryAwardatthefilmfestival.Atthistimewedon’tknowofareleasedateforColinbutwewilldefinitelyinformyouallwhenwehearanythingaboutarelease,screeningorDVD.

我們習(xí)慣把那些活死人統(tǒng)稱為“僵尸”，似乎他們從來(lái)不曾有過(guò)名字，有過(guò)家人，有過(guò)感情，有過(guò)故事。然而當(dāng)一個(gè)人變成“僵尸”后，真的就會(huì)與以前的生活徹底割裂，完完全全變成一個(gè)沒(méi)有特性、與其它同類無(wú)異的怪物嗎？
似乎科林不是這樣的。
這個(gè)曾經(jīng)勇敢而俊美的小伙子，在變成僵尸前的一刻，在珍藏的照片背后寫下“我是科林，我想記住這些，不要讓我復(fù)活”，并將照片放進(jìn)了自己的外衣口袋，也許正是由于這份強(qiáng)烈的念想，讓他成為一個(gè)游離在同類群體之外、全身散發(fā)著文藝氣質(zhì)的僵尸。
他是幸存者眼中的怪物，同樣也是躑躅前進(jìn)，也會(huì)攻擊人類，甚至在自己的親姐姐將他從屠刀下救回后毫不猶豫地攻擊了她。但另一方面，他從不參與其它僵尸組織的群體性事件，從不使用暴力殘忍的手段分食受害人的肢體，他咬向第一個(gè)受害者的脖子時(shí)，優(yōu)雅得就像吸血伯爵；他細(xì)細(xì)地品嘗人類的耳朵，臉上流露出漢尼拔一般的滿足感。
剛開(kāi)始，他像一個(gè)對(duì)世界充滿好奇的孩子，認(rèn)真又迷惘地觀察、體驗(yàn)各種聲音、光線與色彩；以后更多時(shí)候，他則像一個(gè)落魄而超脫的世外高人，冷眼看盡世間萬(wàn)象，看母親如何從堅(jiān)持到放棄，看姐姐如何死而復(fù)生，看怪叔叔如何用地下室制作收集美女僵尸，看僵尸狂潮如何吞沒(méi)奮力抗?fàn)幍哪贻p人，看人類的剿殺隊(duì)如何殘忍地處置受感染的隊(duì)友。
在這場(chǎng)災(zāi)難中，他從受害者變成施暴者，又從施暴者變成旁觀者，眼神和表情始終平靜而又蘊(yùn)涵深意，讓人質(zhì)疑他的思想與感情。
在一場(chǎng)人類對(duì)僵尸的捕殺中，他成為唯一的幸存者，被錘子毀掉的美麗容貌，讓人憐惜地感嘆著無(wú)辜。最終，他回到了曾經(jīng)住的房子，不知在這里，他是否會(huì)想起曾經(jīng)的那一幕，他悲痛地將死去的女友抱在懷中，未能防備她復(fù)活后的撕咬，又不得不再次將她終結(jié)。也許每一個(gè)僵尸都有著自己的故事，也許每一個(gè)僵尸都逃脫不了這樣的結(jié)局。但至少希望有人能記得，這世上曾經(jīng)有過(guò)這樣的一個(gè)他。
我總愛(ài)問(wèn)我親愛(ài)的白兔，如果我變成僵尸，你是會(huì)殺掉我，還是會(huì)保護(hù)我，我親愛(ài)的白兔總會(huì)笑著說(shuō)，有我在你怎么會(huì)變成僵尸。但我總是在想，如果那一天真的到來(lái)，與其提心吊膽地過(guò)日子，還不如讓一切霍然開(kāi)朗。子非魚(yú)，安知魚(yú)之樂(lè)？子非我，安知我不知魚(yú)之樂(lè)？
不論45英鎊的成本是真是假，影片的品質(zhì)是毋庸質(zhì)疑的。爛大街的僵尸電影能做到不狗血已是不易，再往前每邁出一小步都會(huì)令人驚喜欣慰，加上扯皮無(wú)厘頭就是創(chuàng)意，加上社會(huì)諷刺就是關(guān)懷，但能拍得如此令人動(dòng)容，也算是極致了。
